EMERGENCY PLANNING AND COMMUNITY RIGHT-TO-KNOW ACT (EPCRA)

  • Also known as the Title III of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA)
  • Passed by Congress to local areas protect public health, safety, and the environment from chemical hazards
  • In addition to EPCRA, Congress requires each state to have a State Emergency Response Commission, which is responsible for dividing the state into zones of Emergency Planning and for each of the zones to appoint a Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)
